Bangkok is reaching for the sky once again, with Pace Development Corp, the developer of Bangkok’s tallest building, beating its own Baiyoke Tower II into second spot. It’s a record that has held for more than 17 years but by today, MahaNakhon will claim the title of the tallest building in Bangkok – even if it is by just 10m.
The mixed-use space will bring together the best of metropolitan life – from culture to cuisine – in a dynamic civic environment. will be decked with rotating balconies and elevated landscaping, inspired by the mythical hanging gardens of Babylon.
With its distinctive sculptural appearance, the architect behind the 18-billion-baht tower was designed by German architect Ole Scheeren, who has been crafting the Asian skyline with his signature designs. The design will be comprised of: the MahaNakhon Square, a dramatic outdoor landscaped public plaza; the MahaNakhon CUBE, a 10,000 square meter upscale retail centre with lush gardens and terraces spread over multiple levels for restaurants, cafes and marketplace; The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Bangkok with 200 extraordinary apartments, each offering the atmosphere of a skybox penthouse, managed by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company with five-star amenities for all residents; The Bangkok Edition Hotel managed by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in a collaboration between Marriott International and renowned hotelier Ian Schrager; and a multi-level roof-top Terrace Bar and observation deck.

Performing on the night is the legendary Jose Carreras, widely known as one of the Three Tenors along with Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. Having sold 85 million records, Jose Carreras is one of the most commercially successful opera singers of all time. One of the highlight of the night was his version of My Way by Frank Sinatra which received a standing ovations by the crowds.
Another super A-listed star spotted at the first row was the”Happy” singer known as Pharrell William’s, who was also in town to announce his partnership with Dean & Deluca. The new partnership will be a specialty product line, “The Williams Family Kitchen” inspired by his dad & family’s recipes.
